Tooth plaque is very common and almost everyone gets it. Plaque is a film that forms when oral bacteria builds up on your teeth. When plaque remains in your mouth for too long, your teeth suffer. Plaque eats at your teeth and makes them weak. This can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.

There are ways to prevent plaque buildup in your mouth. Here are some tips.

  1. Brush your teeth at minimum twice a day. It is important to brush at bedtime because without it, plaque sits on your teeth all night long.
  2. Clean between your teeth. Plaque can hide in the spaces between your teeth. Use dental floss to reach between the teeth. You should floss at least once a day. If wrapping floss around your fingers isn’t for you, there are other options that are just as effective, including:
  • Dental picks
  • Pre-threaded flossers
  • Water flossers
  • Wooden plaque removers
