Risk factors of gum disease
According to the American Academy of Periodontology, if you have periodontal disease you have an increased risk of coronary artery disease. Additionally, people with diabetes, especially uncontrolled diabetes are more likely to develop gum disease. Diabetics may also find it hard to control their blood sugar levels.
